Program Description:

The Department of Nursing offers a post-graduate certificate program in Advanced Community/Public Health for Registered Nurses who hold an earned master’s or doctoral degree in nursing and are interested in expanding their expertise in an added specialty. The certificate program builds on completed nursing graduate coursework and provides an option for professional development.

The Nurse Educator certificate prepares the holder prepares the graduate to deliver expert nursing care to community-based populations in positions in public health departments, home health agencies, and other community-based organizations. The certificate program consists of a total of 14 units. The courses in the certificate program focus on population health assessment, program planning, and evaluation, health policy, transcultural healthcare, and practicum experience.

Applicants must have completed the following prerequisite courses or their equivalent to be eligible for admission to the certificate program:

• NURS 6425 Epidemiology and Biostatistics
• NURS 6435 Health Informatics

Extension and transfer credit from other colleges and/or universities may make up no more than 30% of total certificate units.

Program Description:

The Department of Nursing offers a post-graduate Nurse Educator certificate program for Registered Nurses who hold an earned master’s or doctoral degree in nursing and are interested in expanding their expertise in an added specialty. The certificate program builds on completed nursing graduate coursework and provides an option for professional development.

The Nurse Educator Certificate prepares the holder for nurse educator positions in both academic and clinical settings. The certificate program consists of a total of 20 units. The courses in the certificate focus on advanced health assessment, advanced pathophysiology, advanced pharmacology, curriculum and instruction, assessment and evaluation, technology for instruction and evaluation, and a teaching practicum experience.

Extension and transfer credit from other colleges and/or universities may make up no more than 30% of total certificate units.

Program Description:

Welcome to the CSUSB Master of Arts in English & Writing Studies application. The program offers five concentrations: Composition & Rhetoric, Literature, and Applied Linguistics and Teaching English as a Second Language, and interdisciplinary concentrations in Pedagogy and Public & Professional Writing.

Speech-Language Pathology Master’s Preparatory Certificate

The Speech-Language Pathology Master’s Preparatory Certificate provides students with the prerequisite coursework needed to apply to most master’s programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Communication Sciences & Disorders. The certificate is designed for college graduates who majored in other areas but are now interested in the fast-growing field of speech-language pathology. The courses in the certificate are taught by faculty from several departments with expertise in communication sciences and disorders and related fields.

Admission to the Certificate

The minimum requirements for admission to the certificate are as follows:

Evidence of success potential in the program, including transcript showing strong academic performance in undergraduate coursework; personal statement; writing sample; contact information for two references; and typically a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0. Please note that the program takes a holistic approach to the admissions process, considering various candidate qualities, including a student’s personal attributes, past experiences, and future goals, and how those might contribute to a good fit with the program. Admission to the certificate is also contingent on the spaces available in the program.

Please note that if you are planning to apply for a master’s degree program in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders, you must also have completed General Education (GE) coursework in several areas. Please see the program website for more information.

Application Instructions

Your application for graduate study at CSUSB includes a two-part review:

Part 1: Office of Graduate Studies

The Office of Graduate Studies reviews your application for general university admission requirements and requires you to upload an unofficial transcript from the institution that awarded your bachelor’s degree. Also, upload transcripts from every post-baccalaureate institution attended, including study abroad and community college coursework. The Office of Graduate Studies may request additional transcripts from you at any time during the application process to complete our review.

Part 2: Speech-Language Pathology Master’s Preparatory Certificate

We take a holistic approach to our admissions process for the Speech-Language Pathology Master’s Preparatory Certificate. This means that we consider a broad range of candidate qualities, including your personal attributes, past experiences, and future goals, and how those might contribute to a good fit with our program and its values and objectives. That is to say, for our program, your undergraduate GPA does not define you and will not exclude you from consideration. Our holistic approach means that you should put a lot of thought into your supporting documents.
