Health Education Workshops

To support the physical and mental health of CSUSB students each semester, the Student Health Center's Department of Health Promotion offers health education presentations and events. View our upcoming schedule for the Fall 2023 semester. 

Are you looking for a specific health presentation or want us to table at your next event? Email melissa.acuna@csusb.edu with your request, and we will coordinate with you. Please give at least three weeks' notice for tabling events and four weeks for presentations. 

 

Fall 2023 Groups

Chronic Health Conditions Support Group - In Person 

Dates: Wednesdays - 6 weeks (10/4-11/8)

Time: 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Location: Student Health Center

Join our in-person, peer-led support group for those who have chronic health conditions or whose loved ones have a chronic health condition. Registration is no required, but appreciated to best gauge interest in the group.

Fall 2023 Presentations

Birth Control: What Is It and How Does It Work?

Date: Thursday, September 14, 2023

Join us in our presentation to learn about the different kinds of birth control and how they work in your body! We will cover: the difference between hormonal vs. non-hormonal birth control, common misconceptions, and questions to ask yourself before starting birth control.

The Doctor's Visit: Preparedness and Management 

Date: Wednesday, September 20, 2023 

Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

This workshop will introduce you to skills that promote a more effective and meaningful experience with your doctor. We will discuss patient rights, protection, and logistics of what you can expect and request during your medical appointments. Come to prepare yourself for the confidence in navigating your health care!

Importance of Exercise

This workshop will go over the importance of exercise when it comes to both mental and physical health. We will discuss ways that students can get active and overcome barriers they face.

QPR Suicide Prevention Training  

Date: Thursday, October 19, 2023  

Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Question. Persuade. Refer. QPR is designed to equip students with information about the different warning signs, resources, and ways to support those who may be struggling with thoughts of suicide. QPR is a training on how to identify symptoms/ warning signs of someone who may be at risk for suicide and how to refer the student to seek help. After attending the training, you will be QPR certified as a Gatekeeper. Aside from being able to provide great and effective support, being QPR certified will also look great on your resume because it is nationally recognized.

Attention Span (Why Yours Is So Bad and How to Improve It)

Maybe it’s time to stop doom scrolling and start that paper. Join us in our presentation on attention span. We will be going over the signs of a poor attention span, the effects of poor attentions, and strategies you can implement to help you concentrate and improve your attention span.
