Health Center Services:

The R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard Health and Psychological Counseling Center is a state-of-the-art facility, with up-to-date technology and equipment. The physical space includes a waiting area, clerical area, exam rooms, counseling office, and lab. The Center now fully operates using an electronic health records system. The Mission of the Student Health Center is to provide compassionate, accessible and cost effective clinical and preventative health service for the student community. We provide first aid and basic out-patient care services. As an enrolled student, you pay a Student Health Fee and are eligible for health services. Although basic health care is provided, treatment for major illnesses and injury (e.g., motor vehicle accidents), as well as certain conditions requiring a specialist or hospitalization, are beyond the scope of service. Students are referred to an outside provider for these illnesses or injuries and it is the student's responsibility to pay the costs associated with the referral. It is important to carry health insurance. Faculty and staff are not eligible for services except in case of emergency.

Typical types of clinic services offered:

  • Physicals: nursing, sports, teaching, pre-employment
  • Birth control: pill, implant, IUCs, depo
  • Emergency contraception, Sexually Transmitted Infection testing, pap smears
  • Vaccines: Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis), flu shots
  • TB skin test: 2 appointments required
  • General Health and Triage

Please call ahead to schedule an appointment and with any inquiries you may have. There is no charge for routine office visits.

CSUSB Palm Desert Campus students also have access to the Student Health Center located on the San Bernardino campus. For more information about the San Bernardino Campus Health Center, visit the CSUSB Health Center website.

Immunizations

For information on how to clear immunization holds, please contact us at 909-537-8177.

All students must meet the immunization standards required by the California State University Chancellor.

Students born after January 1, 1957 are required to be immunized for Measles (rubeola) and Rubella (German measles). Immunization for Hepatitis B is required for all first-time freshmen 18 years old or younger. The Hepatitis B vaccine is given in a series of three shots and takes six months to complete. Students enrolled in a California high school after July 1, 1999 have already satisfied this requirement. If you were not enrolled in a California public high school after July 1, 1999, you must provide verification of prior immunization or receive the immunization by the end of your first semester. If you're immune because you have had the disease, you may provide proof or have a blood test done. Verification or immunization for Hepatitis B must be completed before the end of your second semester.

Students will be unable to register for classes until each requirement is met. Immunizations are available at a cost, through the Student Health Center include MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis), Influenza, and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccines. For the price of a specific vaccine, please contact the health center.

CSUSB has joined the California Immunization Registry (CAIR), a computer-based immunization tracking system developed to assist medical providers and/or approved agencies to track and review immunization information for individuals. This will help remind patients to avoid unnecessary or redundant immunizations, and control disease outbreaks. Information in CAIR is only available to authorized providers/agencies and local health departments in California, and the California Department of Public Health.
