Report a COVID-19 Case or Exposure

What if I have been exposed or if I test positive for COVID-19?

The University requests that any employee or student who tests positive for COVID-19 or becomes aware that they may have been in close contact (six feet or less for 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone who either has tested positive for or is suspected to have COVID-19 report the positive result or exposure. Report your positive test result using the CSUSB COVID-19 Reporting Form. The Office of Risk Management and Student Health Center reviews and verifies COVID-19 confirmed cases, provides return to campus status, and responds to concerns from the campus community on COVID-19.

The campus follows the Quarantine and Isolation Guidelines established by the California Department of Public Health. If you have been exposed, regardless of your vaccination status, wear a mask while around others for 10 days and get tested 3-5 days after exposure.  If you test positive or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, isolate for at least 5 days, do not report to campus, and get tested on day 5.

How will the campus respond in the event of a positive COVID case or a COVID outbreak on campus?

In the event that there is a positive case on campus, Risk Management will notify those community members who may have been exposed. There are several types of mass notifications as well as individual, close-contact notifications that may occur.

Building Notifications are sent to building occupants to notify them of the case.  Attached is a Sample Building Notification Email.

Classroom Notifications are sent to students, instructor(s), the Department Chair, Associate Dean and Dean of the class notifying them of the case.  Attached is a Sample Classroom Notification Email

Investigation and response follows the latest federal, state and county guidelines and the COVID-19 Prevention Plan. The University continues to work closely with the San Bernardino and Riverside County departments of Public Health to report and respond to cases on campus.

What leave benefits do I have if I get COVID-19 and need to isolate?

Depending on the circumstances, you may be eligible for COVID-related leave.  Please contact Human Resources Benefits Department to understand what leave options may apply.

If a student becomes sick with COVID-19, will the CSU help cover medical costs?

No, but fully-enrolled students who have paid their student fees may access basic health services through the Student Health Center for free.  Some additional services may involve a small cost.

Does the campus provide at-home testing kits to students or employees?

At-home test kits may be obtained from vending machines in Santos Manuel Student Union South (SMSU-S) and Sierra Hall. Please email ehs@csusb.edu for more information on at-home test kits.
